Blepharoplasty

What it is

Blepharoplasty removes excess skin and repositions or reduces fat around the eyes, addressing hooded upper lids and puffiness beneath them. It is among the most requested facial procedures because the eye area is where tiredness shows first, and where a small change reads clearly.

What to expect

Dr. Sibaja assesses whether what you are seeing is skin, fat, muscle position or brow height — these look alike and are corrected differently. At your consultation she explains what the procedure can and cannot change for your anatomy, and what recovery realistically involves.

Every answer is a starting point — your consultation goes deeper, personally.

What does blepharoplasty actually change?
It removes excess eyelid skin and repositions or reduces the fat that causes puffiness. It changes the shape and openness of the eye area — it does not treat crow's feet, dark circles or the texture of the skin, which need different treatments.
Upper lids, lower lids, or both?
They are separate operations and are often done together. Upper lids address the hood of skin that can rest on the lashes; lower lids address puffiness and loose skin beneath the eye. Dr. Sibaja will tell you which of the two is actually causing what you see.
How do I know it is skin and not my brow?
A heavy brow can produce exactly the appearance of excess upper-lid skin, and removing lid skin will not fix it. This is the single most important distinction at your assessment, and it is why the examination matters more than a photograph.
What does the operation involve?
Usually local anaesthesia with sedation, as a day procedure. Incisions follow the natural crease of the upper lid, or sit just inside the lower lid or below the lash line.
Will the scars show?
The upper-lid incision sits in the eyelid crease and is hidden when the eye is open. Lower-lid work is often done from inside the lid, leaving no external mark at all. Scars mature over months and fade considerably.
What is recovery honestly like?
Bruising and swelling around the eyes are expected and are usually the most noticeable thing in the first week to ten days. Most patients are presentable sooner than they expect, but plan for that period rather than against it.
How long does it last?
Upper-lid results are generally long-lasting — many patients never need it repeated. Lower lids vary more. Ageing continues either way; the operation resets the starting point rather than stopping the clock.
Can it be combined with other treatments?
Frequently. Skin quality around the eyes responds to Morpheus8 or laser, and the brow position to thread lifts or wrinkle relaxers. Dr. Sibaja will tell you whether the surgery alone gets you where you want to be.

Many patients pair treatments into a single personalized protocol — ask Dr. Sibaja how these work together for your goals.
